Dak Galbi Recipe (Korean Spicy Stir-Fried Chicken)

Dak Galbi

Ingredients

For the chicken & veggies:

  • 1 lb (450g) boneless chicken thighs, cut into bite-size pieces

  • 1 cup cabbage, chopped

  • 1 small sweet potato, sliced thin

  • 1 small onion, sliced

  • 1 cup rice cakes (tteok), optional

  • 1–2 scallions, chopped

  • 1 tbsp oil

For the marinade (gochujang sauce):

  • 2 tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)

  • 1 tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp sugar or honey

  • 1 tbsp minced garlic

  • 1 tsp ginger (optional)

  • 1 tbsp rice wine or mirin

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil


Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken:
    Mix all sauce ingredients, then coat chicken pieces. Marinate 20–30 minutes.

  2. Heat the pan:
    Add oil to a large skillet or pan over medium-high heat.

  3. Cook the chicken:
    Add marinated chicken and cook until it begins to brown.

  4. Add veggies & rice cakes:
    Add cabbage, onions, sweet potato, and tteok. Stir-fry 10–12 minutes until tender and coated in sauce.

  5. Finish & serve:
    Add scallions and a drizzle of sesame oil. Serve with rice or wrap in lettuce leaves.
